The Association for Corporate Growth (ACG Cincinnati), the membership community for middle-market deal-makers, is proud to announce the Honorees for the 2022 Deal Maker Awards.
Now in its 22nd year, the Deal Maker Awards are the industry standard in the Tri-State region for recognizing excellence in mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance transactions. ACG honors and acknowledges the deals and deal makers who initiate, structure and negotiate deals for growing organizations.
The Deal Maker program recognizes outstanding organizations and individuals with proven track records of leadership, innovation and success through the art of the deal. Each of the winners has, in some way, challenged conventional thinking in order to drive growth in their organization and the business community. The program focuses primarily on transactions and growth within the last 18 to 24 months. Prior nominees and honorees include the most prominent and successful companies in the region. The Deal Maker Awards Program is one the most prominent business events in the city.
The selection process is highly competitive with fewer than 5 awards given annually. The nominations are prepared collaboratively with key advisors and senior management working in concert to complete the application. A group of 10 to 12 Finalists are selected from a first stage of evaluation with over 40 companies in the mix. An independent panel of judges, selected from former Deal Maker Honorees, determine this year’s Honorees. The Honorees are:
ACG Cincinnati is delighted to announce that The E.W. Scripps Company will be honored with the Deal of the Year Award for the acquisition of ION Media, the largest acquisition in the company's history. As part of the acquisition, Scripps combined the business of ION, a national TV network with the fifth-largest primetime audience among cable-carried networks, with Scripps' Katz networks and Newsy to create a full-scale national television networks business. Together, the new networks reach nearly every American through free over-the-air broadcast, cable/satellite, over-the-top and digital distribution, with multiple advertising -supported programming streams.Perhaps most remarkably, Scripps was able to pursue, negotiate, structure and close the acquisition during the chaos of the pandemic.
ACG Cincinnati is proud to present Jack Wyant, Founder and Managing Partner of Blue Chip Venture, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor bestowed by the chapter. As most of you are aware, Jack played an outsized role in the formation of Cincinnati's now-thriving venture capital community.
Since the founding of Blue Chip, the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem has grown from one VC firm to about 12 firms, from fund capital of $44 million to about $2 billion, from one resource provider to about 32 entities supporting corporate growth, and about five startups to about 140 startups that are being tracked by Cintrifuse.
Across 32 years Blue Chip raised and invested about $800 million from ten Funds, helped build over 200 companies via 600 financing rounds, most of which Blue Chip organized and led. During this time, Jack served as a director of 50 companies!
Perhaps just as significant has been Jack's tutelage of a generation of entrepreneurs. Blue Chip alumni have founded and built VC firms that represent a substantial part of the region’s estimated $2 billion of fund capital, and are in local ecosystem leadership positions. The collective impact on the community by leaders such as Pete Blackshaw, Todd Gardner, John McIlwraith, Tim Schigel, Tony Shipley and others are enduring sources of pride for Jack.
Prior Lifetime Honorees have included luminaries such as James Anderson, John Barrett, Bob Castellini, Richard Farmer, Candace Kendall, AG Lafley, Glen Mayfield, John Pepper, Ted Robinson, George Schaefer, and Jeff Wyler.
